Are Free Solar Panels A Scam?

With the right combination of tax credits, state incentives and solar financing, switching to solar pays for itself! But that doesn’t mean they’re too good to be true – in fact, millions have people have already made the switch to cleaner, price protected energy.

Don’t believe us? Check out the resources that make this deal a no-brainer!

Tax Credits

The federal solar tax credit, also known as the investment tax credit (ITC), allows solar energy owners to deduct 26% of the cost of installing their panels from their federal taxes. This incentive helps homeowners nationwide to significantly reduce the cost of their solar panels. The federal solar tax applies to both residential and commercial systems – every user that owns their systems, as opposed to renting them, qualifies for this deduction.

This credit can be applied to personal income taxes that would otherwise be payed to the federal government. The solar tax credit will continue to decrease in value, however, making now the best time to act. Residential and commercial solar energy system owners can deduct 26% of the cost of installation for systems that have begun construction through 2020. The solar tax credit then decreases to 22% in 2021, and finally 10% beginning in 2022.

Don’t let this deal pass you – taxpayers will receive the most out of their tax credit if they invest in solar energy today!

State Incentives

In addition to federal tax credits, customers can benefit from state, county and utility rebates. Many solar panel system owners qualify for multiple incentives, making it even easier to save thousands when you make the switch to clean energy.

Employee Spotlight: Brian Stilley

Bob Dylan once said, “the times, they are a-changing.” Boy, was he right. At Momentum Solar, we’ve always worked diligently to keep our customers and employees safe while delivering best-in-class service in our mission to help the entire country switch to cleaner, price-protected energy. However, with the changes 2020 thrust upon the world, we’ve implemented even more steps to ensure it stays that way.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be highlighting some of our diligent, adaptive and committed staff and share our honest conversations with them about their work experience over these past few months.

In our first highlight, Brian Stilley, the Master Electrician for our Texas installations, spoke openly about how he’s getting used to the work flow. We discussed how he and his team are coping with their new work environment and how they’ve adjusted their procedures in order to stay healthy and help Texas go solar one homeowner at a time.

Momentum Solar: How would you describe your job responsibilities someone who’s never heard of solar?

Brian: “Light converted to usable energy, safely. Ensuring that electrical systems and sub-systems provide longevity and defect free performance.”

MS: What are three words you would use to describe your job?

B: “Challenging, diverse, and rewarding.”

MS: What’s your must-have WFH snack?

B: “Coffee (all day).”

MS: How are you staying focused while working from home?

B: “I don’t treat my home office different from the office. Focus is easier as there is not an abundance of people and activities.”

MS: How was your adjustment post-COVID?

B: “We do what we can; physical (social) distancing, temperature screenings for employees, masks and gloves, disinfecting common areas in vehicles and shared tools. We work very diligently to protect employees and customers.”

MS: What are some changes that you’ve noticed to your personal workflow?

B: “Taking breathers during the workday actually amounts to moments of levity and true separation. This has allowed me a moment to re-center and then dive back into the working day.”

MS: How does your team collaborate now with the added restrictions?

B: “We have always had multiple group text messages and video chat abilities among the team. The ability to collaborate and brain-storm is limited just a bit, as these are best as group discussions.”

Our team is here for you in good times and bad. We are committed to ensuring that our customers are as safe as possible and that our employees are using all of the best practices during these challenging times. You can’t control many things in this world, but we can still help you take control of your energy supply and bills.

We look forward to bringing this security and peace of mind to homeowners across the nation. Visit or call 1(888)-MOMENTUM for more information about our services.

Solar Basics

There are plenty of reasons why millions of homeowners nationwide are switching to solar energy – it’s cheaper, a great investment and cleaner. Don’t believe us? Here’s a breakdown of how solar works and the benefits that come with alternative energy.

What Are Solar Panels?

Solar panels are devices that collect sunlight for a solar energy system to use as electricity for a home or business. Sometimes they are referred to as photovoltaic (PV) panels, which simply means “light-electricity.”

What Are Solar Panels Made Of?

Solar energy systems have quite a few working parts to help produce and use renewable energy, but there are two main components that are responsible for generating solar power.

Solar panels are the most important of all the solar components because they are what collect the sunlight to produce usable electricity. Panels are made up of many smaller units called solar cells, which convert the sun’s energy into electrical energy.

Microinverters are the components that do the behind-the-scenes work the light up each home. Since most homes use Alternating Current (AC) electricity and solar power systems generate Direct Current (DC) electricity, microinverters are necessary to be able to apply solar energy to your home. Microinverters convert the DC electricity produced by each panel into usable AC electricity.

How Is Sunlight Converted into Electricity?

Solar panels contain many solar cells, which are made of layers of silicon, phosphorus and boron. The phosphorus provides the negative electrical charge while the boron provides the positive electrical charge. These layers absorb photons from the sun’s energy and convert them into an electric current using these positive and negative charges. This process is known as the Photovoltaic Effect.

In most cases the average solar-powered home generates more than enough energy to meet its needs, so any excess electricity is sent back into the main power grid. Some homeowners also have the option to choose a battery system to stores any excess power and use it when their panels are not producing electricity.

What Are the Benefits of Switching to Solar?

Sunlight is the cleanest source of energy due to its natural abundance, so solar energy has virtually no environmental impact and reduces carbon emissions. It is also more self-sufficient than fossil fuel – solar energy is generated nearly everywhere, whereas fossil fuels are scarce and mainly imported from other countries.

Switching to solar energy also helps homeowners save significantly on their energy bills. Since sunlight is free, solar panel system owners have the luxury of consistently lower monthly bills.

You can also save by taking advantage of tax incentives. The federal solar tax credit gives owners of solar energy systems a 26% credit from the cost of installation that can be applied to their federal taxes. Since solar panels generate excess energy, homeowners are credited for the electricity that is sent back to the grid and shared throughout their neighborhood. This tax incentive will start to decrease at the end of 2020, so now is the best time to make the switch!

Our mission at Momentum Solar is to enable our customers to take control over their rising electricity costs and start generating cleaner, price-protected power. Visit our website or call 1-888-MOMENTUM for more information.

Are Solar Panels Right for Me?

Are you interested in making the switch to clean energy? If you wish to lower your utility bills, increase long-term savings or reduce your carbon footprint then solar power can be an excellent choice!

Solar electricity can help more people than ever thanks to improving technology as well as federal and state incentives. With that being said, Momentum Solar wants the best for our customers and provides homeowners with all information necessary to make this important decision. Here are some questions to consider when trying to determine if solar is right for you.

Is My Home A Good Fit?

Solar panels are designed to work in a wide range of climates and locations. The size, design and location of your home also factor into the efficiency of solar panels. Usually, solar panels perform best on south-facing roofs with a slope between 15 and 40 degrees, but other roofs are suitable too. Speak with a Momentum Solar representative to find out if your roof is a good candidate for installation. Our specialists custom design each system for homeowners to ensure maximum efficiency as well as aesthetic appeal.

Do I Qualify for Credits or Incentives?

Most homeowners who have purchased their solar panels qualify for solar tax credits, which you can apply to your annual taxes. This credit is 26% of the cost of installation through the end of 2020, and after this year this number will decrease slightly. We encourage all who are interested in solar power to make the switch now while this deal is still available!

On top of federal tax credits, you may qualify for local rebates too. These vary depending on state and county, so we encourage you to ask us for help finding the ones that you qualify for.

Can I Afford Solar Panels?

At Momentum Solar, we strive to ensure our customers can achieve their energy goals. That’s why we offer a variety of solar financing options! Customers can choose to buy, lease, receive a loan or utilize a Power Purchase Agreement to finance their solar panels.

How Can I Get Started?

In order to make sure that you qualify for solar power, ask your installer for a virtual no-contact home assessment. Momentum Solar provides customer with a free, no-obligation site assessment that concludes with a quote for your personalized solar energy system. Once you receive this information, you can then come to your decision as to if you would like to continue with this project. We understand that switching to solar is a big commitment and we truly want our customers to feel informed and comfortable when making their decision.

If you choose to pursue a project with Momentum Solar, you can sit back and relax as we take care of the entire process for you. We handle everything from permitting, design, installation and activation of your system. In addition, we also offer a variety of solar financing options to help you plan out your payments for your system and collect your savings your way.

Solar in TX 2020

Tax Credits

The solar tax credit is a nationwide incentive for anyone who buys a solar panel system. This credit gives you a 26% credit based on the cost of installing the energy system that you can apply to your federal taxes. This incentive applies to both residential and commercial systems and is one of the main ways homeowners save when they switch to solar.

This credit will not stay forever – in fact, the government has already begun to phase out this deal. In 2021 the credit will decrease to 22%, and will gradually decrease for the coming years. That is why we urge anyone who plans on switching to clean energy to commit now while the deal is at its best!

Other Solar Rebates

On top of federal tax credits, many homeowners can also utilize their state incentives to save even more. Texas participates in net metering, which gives homeowners credit for any excess energy produced by their panels. In addition, there are a variety of incentives offered by local governments and utility companies. Ask a representative from Momentum Solar to find out exactly which local solar rebates you qualify for!

Energy Savings

Many Texas residents switch to solar power because of the energy savings that they accumulate over the lifespan of their system. Once your solar panels are up and running, you will no longer need to rely on your neighborhood’s energy grid 24/7. Instead, your home will run on power directly from the sun and only tap into the grid when it’s necessary. This results in big savings each month on your utility bill!

We understand that investing in a solar energy system is a big commitment, which is why we are here to help in all the ways that we can. Momentum Solar offers multiple solar financing options to help you cover the cost of your panels in the way that is most convenient for you.
