What Are the Benefits of Going Solar?

Solar energy is a renewable, sustainable and abundant natural resource. Each year, more and more Americans are making the switch to solar energy and fossil fuels are being left in the dust. Since the solar investment tax credit (ITC) was enacted in 2006, the United States solar industry has grown by more than 10,000 percent.1 This incredible growth is a testament to the feverish demand for solar energy solutions across the country.

Even though solar energy is all the rage, what exactly are the benefits to homeowners?

One of the biggest motivators to switching to solar energy is the savings homeowners often experience through monthly utility cost reductions as well as federal and state tax incentives.

In layman’s terms, the ITC allows qualified homeowners to subtract 26 percent of the cost of installing a solar energy system from their federal taxes. The ITC, when coupled with lower monthly utility bills, makes the decision to go solar a no-brainer.

While saving money is certainly a driving factor to going solar, it’s not the only reason why solar is of interest to millions nationwide…

Adding solar panels to your home is often considered a valuable upgrade by real estate professionals. Doing so can be on par with renovating your master bathroom or kitchen. According to Energy.gov, Americans with solar homes on the market often experience faster, more fruitful sales than homeowners without panels.

“Homes with solar panels sell faster than those without… California homes with energy efficient features and PV were found to sell faster than homes that consume more energy.”[1]

One study by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory showed that adding solar panels increased the value of a home by thousands of dollars.[2] On average, the typical increase in home value is about a 4.1 percent. The facts are clear – new homebuyers are eager to make the switch to clean energy and they’re willing to dish out extra cash (faster) to buy a home with panels installed.

Although saving money and increasing home value are both powerful reasons to go solar, reducing one’s environmental impact is also a motivating factor for many homeowners. Each year nearly around the world.3 By going solar, you remove yourself from that statistic and cut down on your family’s carbon emissions dramatically.

“Non-renewable [fossil] fuels, which include coal, oil and natural gas, supply about 80 percent of the world’s energy… When fossil fuels are burned, they release carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, which in turn trap heat in our atmosphere, making them the primary contributors to global warming and climate change.” [3]

With solar energy, you can feel proud that you’re not adding to the mounting climate change crisis. You’re supporting a viable, effective solution.

As you can see, there are a number of ways you can benefit from the boundless energy of the sun. No matter your motivation, you’re making a positive difference in your life and the world around you by switching to solar.

Solar is Flourishing in the Sunshine State

Florida is known as the Sunshine State, and for a good reason. With a population of over 21 million people, it’s exciting to see many homeowners soaking up the sun and benefiting from solar energy. However, all of that solar success would be impossible without the hardworking folks behind the hard hats, clipboards and computer monitors.

With more than 380 dedicated employees based in Florida, Momentum Solar was able to install over 30 MW in 2019 and 17 MW in 2020 to date. It goes without saying that our Florida team has been busy – and they wouldn’t have it any other way.

We recently took the time to sit down and talk with a few of our employees in the Sunshine State to see what drives them in this industry, why they love living in Florida and what having a stable career in the solar industry means to them.

Speaking with Erik Hart (pictured above), an Orlando Solar Specialist, we asked him why he selected solar for the next step in his career.

“The evolution of the technology and the efficiency of the equipment has absolutely moved in a positive direction…” he says. “On a personal level, the solar industry has given me the ability to take care of my family, my community and the environment. There isn’t another industry that helps so many people while also helping to reduce our carbon footprint. Solar is the future.”

At Momentum Solar, we strive to achieve world-class service for our customers and employees. With the world moving towards a greener future, our team is dedicated to helping others reach their solar goals.

“I found myself in the job market and, being 55 years of age at the time, was not looking forward to what the world had in store for me. I went on countless job interviews only to be told I was ‘overqualified’ … or that I wasn’t ‘a good fit for the position.’”

As we all know, finding a job can be extremely stressful and overwhelming at times – especially now in the midst of a global pandemic. Our team understands the challenges those in the job market face, and we welcome anyone who is looking to take the solar plunge and dedicate themselves to our Momentum family and their respective team. Ron is among many of our Momentum employees who have found personal and professional success in what we do.

“I came across an ad for a Solar Specialist position with Momentum and began to research both the industry and the company,” Ron says while smiling proudly. “After interviewing, I received (and immediately accepted) a position as a Solar Specialist. In less than 18 months, I was promoted twice and currently serve as a Corporate Trainer.”

It goes to show that solar has made its mark on the Sunshine State. Our dedicated team members are just a few of the positive testimonies that showcase the financial benefit of going solar, not only professionally, but for the environment and the Florida economy.
